The project “water and sanitation services management in small cities” is an initiative that seeks to improve and promote a management model for water and sanitation in small cities.
Goal: Implement the management and capacity building model in management, administration and operation of water and sanitation services in municipalities of small cities in the regions of Apurimac and Ayacucho.
Source of funding: PROCOES – Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation.
Scope of intervention: District of Tambo and Qarhuapampa Populated Center in Ayacucho.
Duration: March 2018 – January 2019.
Expected Results:
- Establishment of the management model involving management structure and personnel responsible for the water and sanitation system.
- Develop competencies in municipalities in order to manage the services sustainably.
- Develop competencies in the responsible personnel so they manage the service.
- Develop technical competencies in the responsible personnel so they maintain the service.
- Carry out activities with the users generating payment responsibility for the maintenance and sustainability of the system.
- Carry out activities to relate and coordinate with the local actors for guaranteeing the functioning of the system.
- Carry out sanitation education activities with the users to foster healthcare, water care and water resource preservation.
Achievements:
- Municipalities in small cities such as Tambo and Qarhuapampa in Ayacucho constantly manage the water and sanitation service.
- Fostering of the water and sanitation management model implemented and established in the municipality.
- A trained team of the Municipality Management Unit for managing the service.
- A trained team for the operation and management of water and sanitation system.
- The population recognizes the commitments with caring and paying for the water and sanitation service.
