He is a professor and director of the Department of Global Community Health and Behavioral Sciences at The Tulane School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine. He is a certified specialist in pediatric infectious diseases with over 30 years of experience in applied and clinical child health research with collaborators in Peru, Kenya and Cambodia. He is the principal investigator for three active training fellowships, two of which have significant activities in Peru.
His research focuses on infectious diseases in children from low-resource areas, particularly diarrheal diseases, tuberculosis, and neonatal sepsis, with an emphasis on translation methods applied to detect, treat, or prevent these conditions.
